The ZBE was activated the past January 2!
The Barcelona City Council has activated this January 2, an action plan to reduce air pollution from motor vehicles. The ZBE, is a restricted area of more than 95km2 where vehicles that do not have the DGT environmental badge, cannot drive and can be sanctioned from April 1, 2020.
The area that will remain restricted includes the Ronda de Dalt to the Ronda Litoral and part of the Hospitalet de Llobregat, Cornellà de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat and Sant Adrià del Besòs.
The purpose of this restriction is to improve the air quality of the Barcelona area and to begin to face a well-known public health problem. The aim is to reduce NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) and suspended particles emissions by up to 30% over a period of 15 years.
